Why 2022 Will Be The SCI Convention To Remember
Registration has opened for the 2022 SCI Convention and members should get ready for an SCI convention unlike any other.
What makes this one so different? Start with this being the SCI’s 50th Anniversary! The big “Five O” is worthy of a spectacular celebration, and Event Services staff and committee members are working to make it an event to remember in the history of SCI.
“This will be a show like never before,” says Amanda Roninger, SCI’s Director of Event Services. According to Roninger, the 2022 show floor will be a unique blend of spectacle and pragmatism. “Get ready for a showstopping entrance and some spectacular displays. You’ll want to keep your phones charged up to photograph this epic event,” she says.
Not only is it a celebratory affair showcasing some new and amazing features – including 70-feet of bar space in a commemorative members’ lounge right on the show floor – but ,special attention is being given to comfort, convenience and ease of access for both SCI members and exhibitors.
The success of the convention depends on both attendees and booth participants, and convention organizers are focused on making this the show that creates a new level of experience for both.
The specially planned members lounge will be the show’s central impossible-to-miss feature encompassing an incredible 15,000 square feet. Besides its impressive physical presence, this new convention feature will also provide members and exhibitors with some welcoming benefits.
With seating for 300, the lounge will be furnished with comfortable couches and will serve beverages and food. This space will truly be a place to relax and visit with friends, whether to exchange stories with other hunters, discuss an upcoming trip with a PH, plan a work of art with a taxidermist, jeweler or sculptor, or get autographed books or photos with celebrities.
Not only will the phenomenal bar serve as the show’s premium watering hole, it will allow hungry patrons to sit for a bite. Complete meals comprised of salads, sandwiches, burgers and more will be served throughout the show floor, allowing members to get much more than the casual snack of peanuts and popcorn.
For those short on time, this will make it quick and easy to get a plate of “real” food and get back to business. There won’t be a need to walk all the way to the convention center’s food court outside the show to eat and relax, as in past years. Instead, members will want to use that energy to walk around the lounge displays, exhibiting SCI’s 50-year history in a collection of photographs and memorabilia from past conventions. These will not only include items from SCI files and storerooms but also from members’ personal albums, sharing their memories of past shows.
Convention planners are currently looking for more photos of past SCI conventions and invite members who would like to share their special memories to email photos and stories to [email protected].
Also in the lounge area, members will find special displays for the SCI Gun of the Year and the Artist of the Year, book signing events, and other special offerings. Exclusive auction items will be promoted here too – like the Alaska hunting package that includes one of SCI founder C.J. McElroy’s rifle. Evening auction items will be featured there throughout the day, and the entire area will offer lots of photo opportunities for members to document the 50th anniversary event.
Another convenience this year is that the show is configured to keep all events in one place, including day auctions and silent auctions. No need to go upstairs or leave the show. This makes it easier and faster for members to dash over to an event and step right back into the action on the floor – something both members and exhibitors will appreciate.
There will also be lots of things members will recognized from previous shows too, such as the Gunmakers Village and the Fishing Village, respectively gathering all the exhibiting gun makers and sportfishing outfits in one place.
The show floor will cover 650,000 square feet of exhibition space, allowing more than 900 outfitters to exhibit and offer adventures from six continents. More than 20 live, silent, day and evening auctions will offer members the opportunity to scoop up unique items or experiences while supporting SCI’s missions of hunter advocacy and worldwide conservation. More than 70 seminars, meet-and-greet opportunities and keynote speakers will enlighten, entertain and enrich members’ lives.
The convention takes place from Wednesday, Jan. 19 through Saturday, Jan. 22, 2022 at the Mandalay Bay Resort & Casino in Las Vegas, Nevada.
