The 1970s admonition, “It's not nice to fool with Mother Nature”, in Chiffon margarine commercials could easily apply to the current faux-meat phenomenon.
The Impossible Burger, recently introduced in St. Louis area Burger Kings, has come under scrutiny for testing positive for glyphosate, according to a report in Living MaxWell.
The report says that in 2017 the “Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) documents uncovered that the FDA disagreed with the company’s safety assessments of the burger’s main ingredient — soy leghemoglobin. However, the company continued selling it to the public anyhow without informing consumers about the FDA’s very serious concerns. The issue this time around with the Impossible Burger is the amount of glyphosate that it contains.”
Billed as a healthy alternative to ‘traditional’ meat, it appears there may be some hidden dangers lurking in the frankenburgers. Potentially making matters worse, Impossible Foods founder Pat Brown said the Impossible Burger will start using GMO soy in its burgers.
“So, the Impossible Burger not only contains a genetically-modified protein that has never been in the human diet until a few years ago, but it has also tested positive for glyphosate,” said the Living Maxwell report.
It seems that good old-fashioned meat is the healthiest choice of all – but then, we already knew that.
