Safari Club International (SCI) is pleased to announce Congressman Richard Hudson (R-NC-09) as the recipient of its 2024 Legislator of the Year Award.
With this award, the conservation community recognizes Rep. Hudson as a steadfast defender of hunting freedoms and Second Amendment rights that are vital to outdoorsmen and women across the country.
For example, Congressman Hudson co-sponsored the Protecting Hunting Heritage and Education Act (H.R. 5110) to prevent the Department of Education from restricting funding for hunting and archery programs in schools. Upon the bill introduction, he rightfully noted: “We should fully recognize the benefits of these programs, which teach public safety, self-esteem, and teamwork to future generations.”
He also co-sponsored the Protecting Access for Hunters and Anglers Act (H.R. 615) to bar the Departments of Interior and Agriculture from banning the use of lead ammunition on federal lands. Such bans are not supported by wildlife science and will, first and foremost, reduce important hunting access for many Americans.

Rep. Hudson has represented North Carolina in the House of Representatives since 2013 and was rated the most effective legislator from North Carolina. Congressman Hudson currently serves as chairman of the National Republican Congressional Committee (NRCC), placing him as the fifth-ranking Republican in the 118th Congress and the highest-ranking Republican Member of Congress from North Carolina in history.
