SCI Joins American Conservation Partners for Summer Meeting

Last week, SCI participated in the American Conservation Partners (AWCP) Summer Meeting.  This meeting marked the 20th anniversary of the creation of this coalition of 50 wildlife organizations.

The virtual meeting took place over the course of two days.  Presentations were made by elected officials – Representative Bruce Westerman (R – AR) and Senator Martin Heinrich (D – NM) and senior officials from the Administration (Secretary David Bernhardt, Natural Resource Conservation Service Chief Matt Lohr, and U.S. Forest Service Chief Vicki Christiansen).

Topics discussed by the collective group included:
– The final report on Sec. Order 3362 (Big Game Migration Corridors and Winter Habitat)
– AWCP Engagement in the Appropriations Process Great American Outdoors Act Implementation
– Anti-hunting & Import Ban Legislation
– Big Game Migration on USFS Lands

What’s next:  During his remarks, Secretary Bernhardt challenged the group to work together and provide him with a list of priorities to tackle during the remainder of the year.  The group concluded that the list should be focused on priorities for implementation of the Great American Outdoors Act.  SCI was placed on a small working group to oversee the prioritization.
