Safari Magazine Writer's Guidelines
SAFARI Magazine is a bi-monthly publication that focuses on big-game hunting and conservation. The publication was founded in 1971 as the official publication of Safari Club International. Circulation is approximately 50,000. SAFARI is mailed internationally to SCI members as well as to selected other individuals and organizations.
Editors are interested in articles that deal with legally huntable big game of trophy quality in natural settings worldwide. We buy all rights to manuscripts, including electronic rights. SCI member contributors will receive an honorarium of $25.
Features need to be about 2,000 words and should be informative, accurate and designed to appeal to sportsmen and women. No fiction or poetry accepted. This is on an âif published/when publishedâ basis. You must be an SCI or SCIF member for feature article submissions to be considered for acceptance.
Ready to Reach Out To Us?
You have two options:
1. You can submit a query, which is a short description of the article you intend to write. Note why it may be of interest to our readers. Email the query and include samples of images that would accompany the article submission. If your query is accepted, you will hear back from us and then you should submit your final, proofread manuscript.
2. Or, you skip the query part and email a completed, proofread manuscript and photos to [email protected].
Editors will let you know if we plan to publish the manuscript as is, publish after you complete changes we suggest, or decline to publish it. Thank you for your patience. We respond as we are able.
Photos Are Important!
Photos should be submitted with the query or manuscript. Use a file-transfer app, such as WeTransfer, Google Photos, or DropBox because photos are often restricted in number and/or are automatically reduced in size in regular email submission. Every article submission must be accompanied by a complete photo package with about a dozen high-resolution digital images â no prints, no slides â that show different aspects of the hunter or adventure. The image selection should include shots of hunting areas landscapes, the hunting party in various activities engaged in the hunt, closeups of the antlers/horns or unique gear, cartridges, live animals, and photos of the hunter with the downed game.
Photos must be original resolution (not low-resolution versions from social media sites), and meet our production standards for quality. Send queries or manuscripts, as well as photos via wetransfer.com or similar file-transfer website/app, to [email protected].
Good luck, and thanks for your interest in SAFARI Magazine.
